As the Chinese are upping the ante with the introduction of new models by the month, so are the Japanese it seems. Suzuki is introducing two new models, starting with the Suzuki Fronx which we've had the privilege of driving and have all the info you need.

Styling

It is a crossover, however, it also has hints of a coupé SUV in its styling. The design is not only inoffensive but it's appealing. Suzuki has separated the daytime running lights from the headlamps, creating a nice visual effect. In the GLX variant, the headlamps are LED, while there rear benefits from a stylish light bar spanning the width of the boot. You can have the new Suzuki Fronx in a choice of six different colours. Should you want the two-tone effect, there are three two-tone colour combinations available. We’ll give it an 8/10 on styling.

Interior & Tech

Suzuki opted for burgundy and black as the standard interior colours, a combination we found tasteful but others didn't find it appealing. Considering the Fronx’s affordable pricing, you're not going to get options like leather for the interior upholstery, it comes with cloth and synthetic leather seats. You're also getting interior ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay, 3 USB ports (one front and two rear), a 7 or 9-inch display screen depending on the variant, as well as a wireless charging pad and a 360-degree camera in the GLX. Features such as cruise control, a keyless system and a head-up display are also available in this budget-friendly offering. Safety equipment includes a total of 6 airbags, however, the Fronx is yet to undergo a safety rating test.

Suzuki Fronx Engine Specs

The brand's trusted 1.5l engine has been put to use in the new Fronx, producing 77 kW and 138 Nm. Being a naturally aspirated motor, it fares well at the coast and doesn't feel underpowered provided, you're in the correct gear. For inland dwellers, it might be prudent to take it for a test drive and see how it holds up where the air is thinner. The Fronx is a pleasant vehicle to pilot with good road manners - the 16-inch wheels keep it grounded.

How much is the Suzuki Fronx?

Going up against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite, Suzuki had to bring the Fronx in at a competitive pricepoint, and they did. The new Suzuki Fronx starts at a refreshing R279 900 and comes coupled with a 4-year 60 000km service plan and a 5-year 200 000km promotional warranty.
