Very few vehicles play in the Lexus LX space, making it all the more striking if you by some chance didn't notice it the first time around. Sold in more than 50 countries globally, the Lexus LX has remained etched in my mind since my first encounter. It was my first truly premium SUV experience as an intern at the start of my career as a journalist nearly a decade ago. Well, a new LX has rolled into town and here's everything you need to know about it.
Styling
As with every Lexus model, the spindle grille is an ever-present identifying feature, and in the case of the new LX, it's flanked by L-shaped lamps with daytime running LEDs. You'll notice a new combination taillight at the rear too, which is present in other Lexus models. You may be unaware, but Lexus has redesigned its badge and the towering LX wears the new emblem with pride. The Rest of the vehicle stays true to the LX blueprint with flat panels and sharp edges to create its bulky body. Beneath the body is a set of 22-inch wheels, the largest on any Lexus currently in production.
Interior
Upgrades have been made to the cabin, which in the new LX SUV, features a head-up display in addition to the instrument cluster. To the left of it is a 12.3-inch media screen which has moved closer to the driver for improved visibility. Beneath that is a second 7-inch screen which displays vehicle-related information. Wireless charging is available, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Both front seats are electronically operated and have heating and cooling functions. You also get a 25-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound system in the new Lexus LX. A first for the brand is the use of fingerprint identification for starting the vehicle. You'll be able to register up to 10 fingerprints for this function.
Lexus LX Range
Two new twin-turbocharged petrol and diesel engines have been added to the Lexus LX line-up, including the silky smooth Lexus LS-derived 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6. The full range consists of an LX 500d and LX 600, both are offered in F SPORT variants. In addition to these, a new flagship has been appointed for the LX brand - the Lexus LX 600 VIP. The range-topping VIP variant is marked by a four-seat cabin layout, and all four seats are electronically adjustable with a massage function. The two rear seats in the LX 600 VIP have heating and cooling functions. Rear legroom in this exclusive variant has been increased by 860mm, with seatbacks that can recline up to 48 degrees for ultimate comfort and space.
