GAC Motors has launched the Emkoo to complement the recently introduced GS3 Emzoom with the newcomer featuring a striking front end along with a host of tech features to go with the 1,5-litre engine mounted behind the flat front.
Salvador Caetano, the official distributor for GAC Motor in South Africa, if offering two variants at launch – the Executive and the more luxurious Executive-Plus, both with the 12 bars arranged in a 'V' shape and accentuated with titanium-tungsten alloy strip at the front, where the matrix LED headlights are a mere 20 mm in thickness but boast a combined output of 2 650 lumens—25% brighter than previous models.

The rear design continues with ‘lightsaber-inspired’ LED taillights arranged in an 'X' formation, equipped with 128 embedded LED bulbs and a music sync function.
Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the advanced cabin layout, featuring an interactive display system with three screens: a 10,1-inch touchscreen, a 10-inch LCD instrument cluster, and a Head-Up Display (HUD) on the Executive-Plus variant.

The vehicle’s panoramic sunroof, standard across the range, includes power sunshades, providing an unobstructed view of the sky, while ambient lighting sets a vibrant mood within the cabin.
The gear shift has a similar crystal-inspired aesthetic to the Emzoom, and the vrhicles has a body width of 1 901mm and a wheelbase of 2 750mm, with legroom of 1 059 mm in the front and 990 mm in the rear.

On the performance front, the Emkoo is powered by a 1.5 TGDI MegaWave engine paired with a 7WDCT transmission. This combination delivers 130 kW of power and 270 Nm of torque, achieving fuel efficiency of 6,4 l/100 km and the advanced MegaStar chassis has a McPherson independent suspension at the front and a Multi-Link setup at the rear.
Safety incorporates a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a 360-degree camera for improved manoeuvrability and a robust crash bag system with six strategically placed units. The vehicle’s structure includes submarine hull-grade hot-formed steel and ultra-high-strength steel to maximise protection in the event of a collision.
The Emkoo is priced at R599 900 for the Executive and the Executive-Plus at R659 900.
