Driven - Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Elite CVT

The Chinese car manufacturers has improved in leaps and bounds in the last few years and is quickly becoming more desirable.

One such brand which has been re-introduced to SA at the end of last year is Chery.

In just a short period of time they launched the Tiggo 4 Pro as well as the Tiggo 8 Pro with more models still to come.

If you were following the motoring news recently you would know that Chery currently offers an unheard of 10 year/1,000,000km warranty, this shows you how much they believe in the product.

Design

It looks modern and masculine but not overly designed. There are some cleverly integrated red elements that makes it look sporty and some cool looking black rims on the Elite models.

Interior

This is where the Tiggo outshines its competitors. It looks modern and feels solidly put together, like what you would expect from much more expensive German Cars

The Drive

Power delivery of the 1.5 turbo engine (108kW and 210Nm) is exceptional and the CVT gearbox is seamless. Suspension is setup for comfort and does not have excessive body roll at all. Steering is precise and you don’t feel disconnected at all. The steering and gearbox has an Eco and Sport Mode, with sport mode stiffening up the steering and allowing the gearbox to take a bit longer between shifts.

Other features include: DRL’s; Rear ISOFIX and air vents; Traction Control; Hill Decent Control; Auto Head Lights; Auto Wipers; Reverse PDC and Camera; Dual Zone Climate Control; AppleCarPlay and Android Auto just to name a few

The package overall and what you get for your hard earned cash is seriously impressive.

Pricing starts at around R274,900 for the entry Level Urban Manual model, all the way up to R364,900 for the Elite SE CVT

1.5 Urban – R274,900

1.5 Comfort – R304,900

1.5T Elite – R324,900

1.5T Elite CVT  – R354,900

1.5T Elite SE CVT – R364,900

For peace of mind you get a 5 Year/150,000km warranty and a 5 Year/60,000km service plan

After the first 5 years/150,000km warrantee the extended 5 year/850,000km engine warranty kicks in.

Note that the additional 5 year/850,000km warranty is not transferable and is only valid if you are the first owner.

“We have invested heavily in our own capabilities and now employ over 5500 people in our Research and Development department that now develops everything from traditional petrol engines to all-electric powertrains, hydrogen systems and even aeronautical engines,” said Chery South Africa GM Tony Liu. “It is with this in mind that we are supremely confident in offering this decade-long, 1-million-kilometre engine warranty”.

Verdict

If you are in the market for a compact SUV you should definitely consider the Tiggo 4 Pro
